Regular Library Hours

The library will open for regular business on Wednesday, August 29, 2018.  Regular hours are:

Monday - Thursday 7:00 am - 3:45 pm,  Friday 7:00 am - 3:00 pm.

If you are visiting during your Off Roll period please sign in and out on the clipboards when you first enter the library.

EBSCO Discovery

Search our library book catalog and databases all at the same time. You will need to login with the library username (on the back of your ID card) to access the full text.
You can export any citation now directly from Discovery into Noodle Tools. Click on Cite in Noodle Tools or see the librarian for help.

Research Award Announced

The $100 Research Award went to senior, Zach Wong for his essayThe Roads That Diverged on a Yellowed Page” written for Mr. Graber’s AP Literature Class. The class honorable mentions are 9th grade, Mathew Sun’s essay De-extinction: Revival or Replacement?” for Ms. Roy’s Honors English, 10th grade Joshua Wong, “Stem Cells: Embryo to Massive Ethical Dilemma” for Ms. Holzhauer’s English 4 and 11th grade Kayla Kressin’s essay “Journey to the Moon” for Mr. Lewis’ AP US History.  Congratulations to all participants on their outstanding research.

READ Photo Contest

Contest winners were announced May 22. Posters will arrive soon in the library.  THANK YOU to all photography students for some amazing READ motivators.

The READ photo contest occurs each April at PHS in celebration of National School Library Month. Professional photographers and district administrators judge each class and come up with 1st, 2nd and 3rd places as well as a Grand Prize. 

Students and staff vote for their favorites. Their winning photo is the Readers' Choice Award.  All award winners receive a monetary prize from the PHS Foundation.

Susan Meissner, Poway alumni and author, visited April 19

Susan Meissner came to Poway after a tour for her new book, As Bright as Heaven. This acclaimed new novel is set in Philadelphia during the Spanish flu epidemic of 1918, and tells the story of a family reborn through loss and love. Mr. Graber's and Ms. Roy's classes enjoyed hearing Ms. Meissner speak during 2nd period. Mr. Frank Barone, a former PHS English teacher attended and read a poem, Butterflies, that he wrote in honor of Ms. Meissner's new book.  Check out one of Ms. Meissner's books. They will be on display through April.

Bill Toone visited PHS March 29 at lunch in B5

PHS enjoyed a conversation with Bill Toone, EcoLife Founder & Director, Member of PHS Alumni Hall of Fame, and past California Condor Recovery Program Biologist about his lifetime involvement with conservation.  

Cecil Castellucci visited PHS February 16.

PHS Library Advisory Council

The library will be recruiting for a new student advisory council.  The council will advise on all matters regarding library services including space, collections, programs and technologies.  This is a great community service opportunity and will look great on your resume/college application.  Meetings will be held monthly at lunch. We will be using the proceeds from our Barnes & Noble Book fair to purchase Manga.  Let us know what series you would like more of as well as any additional series you would like us to add.  Click here to give us your suggestions.

Faces of the Future

Our 30 seniors that were selected for the FACE Fraternity for Academic and Civic Excellence Award have their posters now on display in the library.  If you are not able to stop by and see them in the library they are also on the FACE facebook site or on the Visual Photography's Face site. Congratulations seniors and make plans now to earn your way to a spot on the wall in the years ahead.
